Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology, or VIIT as it’s commonly abbreviated, was founded in 2002 to impart world class education and to develop useful manpower with entrepreneurship qualities for industries. It is a self financed institute affiliated to University of Pune (Identification No. Pu/PN/Engg./184/2002-2003). It is recognized and approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. Vishwakarma, as per Indian mythology, was an architect – engineer of the almighty God. BRACT adopted this name with the vision to develop engineers of high caliber, who can take up challenges in technical field with original work and creativity. During the last nine years, VIIT has developed into an institute recognized amongst few top ranking engineering colleges in Pune and is an ISO 9001-2008 certified institute. The college has been a host of the event, Perception since the year 2006. All those years of constant development and gradual learning has converged upon us in the form of an extravaganza, a synonym of elegance, Perception 2012.
Bansilal Ramnath Agarwal Charitable Trust, or BRACT it’s famously abbreviated, was Established on 16th June 1975 under trust act of 1950. The trust takes part in various religious, cultural and social activities. A premier religious endeavour was the setting up of the Mahalaxmi Temple near Saras Baug in pune, which is an active host of social and cultural events throughout the year. Some of the prominent initiatives taken by BRACT includes • Donating money and medical facilities like ambulance to hospitals and other needy organizations • Awarding “Adishakti Puraskar” to eminent ladies devoted to social work. • Arranging lectures and musical recitals of famous and eminent persons during the Navarathri Mahotsav. The governing body of BRACT includes a group of eminent and esteemed individuals.

Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology stepped into the technical arena in 2008 with the birth of Perception, the annual technical symposium of the institute, where young innovative minds blossoming with fresh ideas were given a platform to showcase their technical prowess. With each passing year and each new generation of brighter minds, Perception has grown to a national level, where the budding engineers of our country converge on one common field and battle it out to prove their mettle. The highly awaited events undergo a transformation in keeping with the changing technologies in every sector, presenting the fest as a new episode every year. The zeal for a top notch technical festival draws a massive congregation from every city and town in the country which fill up the college campus with some of the most brightest and enthusiastic minds. Robocon is the Asia's largest robotics competition. There is a student organized team from VIIT which annually participates. College sponsors the team with over Rs 1,50,000. It is a very active group which spends day and night at college designing and manufacturing the robots. The team works for around 2 months in the college workshop.
Team "Avishkar" is a cultural commune of the college which participates in the prestigious acting and cultural competitions held in Pune. Student teams work all day in the college perfecting there acting and oratory skills. VIIT had the privilege to hold the cup in 2011. Over a lac is spent by the college on both the events separately.
